Axie Infinity Shards (AXS) is an ERC-20 governance token that underpins the Axie Universe. Token holders can earn rewards by staking AXS, participating in gameplay, and engaging in governance decisions. Players are also able to accumulate $AXS through various in-game activities and community-generated content initiatives.

The core objective of Axie Infinity Shards is to align incentives between the players and developers in unique ways. The system is designed to reward users for interacting with the game while encouraging long-term token ownership. Additionally, AXS serves as the mechanism to decentralize governance, gradually transferring decision-making power to the community.

Community Treasury

This treasury will initially collect revenues from Axie Infinity and a portion of staking rewards, eventually being governed by AXS stakers once decentralization reaches maturity. Initial inflows will come from 4.25% of Axie NFT marketplace transactions and AXS fees from breeding. Over time, additional revenue streams will include cosmetic sales, tournament entry fees, licensing, and other opportunities.

Early staking issuance is intentionally high to encourage token engagement without relying on extra funding. As issuance decreases over time, the Community Treasury could provide sustainable incentives for stakers through fees generated across the Axie ecosystem.

The Expansive Axie Universe

The Axie Universe features collectible creatures known as Axies, forming a player-driven economy where users fully own their digital assets. Players can buy, sell, and trade Axies much like traditional trading cards or collectibles.

The universe continues to expand through new games and experiences. Players may engage in battles to reach top rankings, complete quests, defeat bosses, or explore immersive storylines. Axies possess unique genetic codes that determine their body parts, which in turn influence gameplay mechanics. This creates virtually endless combinations and strategic possibilities, allowing each Axie to be uniquely utilized across different experiences.

Art assets and genetic data are accessible to third-party developers, enabling the creation of new tools, experiences, and gameplay modes.
